Dogs have been mans best friend for thousands of years, and as such you think wed know each other pretty well by now. However, theres no denying that theres much about our canine friends we’re yet to fully understand. Here we take a look at some surprising facts about our canine friends that might just blow your mind! Subway Riding Strays We all know dogs are intelligent, however one pack of stray dogs in Russia are so smart, they have even worked out how to use the elaborate Moscow subway system to travel around the city, displaying an uncanny sense of timing and direction. These canines have learned to adapt to their urban surroundings perfectly, and have also been observed obeying traffic lights too, in order to avoid traffic. DF1 Guilty? Whilst dogs often look guilty when being told off by their owners, the truth is those puppy dog eyes are not all they seem, and dogs dont actually feel guilt. In fact, this guilty look is simply our interpretation of a dogs reaction to being told off. Maybe Denver didnt steal those treats after all.... DF2 Colour Vision Its a commonly held belief that dogs can only see in black and white, however this is a myth. Whilst their colour vision is not as vivid as ours, dogs are still capable of seeing in colour.

They Can Smell Disease Dogs have a truly extraordinary sense of smell which is almost 1 million times stronger than our own. So powerful is this ability, they’ve even been found to detect diseases such as cancer and diabetes. DF4 They Have Their Own Fingerprint Just like us humans, dogs have their own unique fingerprint too. Indeed, whilst dog noses tend to look pretty similar, every dog does in fact have its own distinct nose-print, that’s unique to them, and can even be used to identify them.

They Can Dream This one might come as less of a surprise to dog owners, and most of us can relate to having watched our dogs twitch or even howl during their sleep. Interestingly, dogs have been found to display the same pattern of brain waves when asleep as humans do, suggesting that they are capable of dreaming too. The question is what do they dream about?
