Want to tap into your dog's incredible natural abilities and try something completely different? Our mantrailing workshop in Banstead gives you and your dog an exciting introduction to scent tracking – a thrilling activity that's perfect for all breeds, ages, and fitness levels. Whether you have a high-energy working dog or a gentle senior, mantrailing offers mental stimulation, confidence-building, and quality bonding time in the great outdoors.

What is Mantrailing?

Mantrailing is the art of training your dog to follow the unique scent trail of a specific person. Using techniques rooted in real-world search-and-rescue operations, your dog learns to use their incredible sense of smell to track and locate a "missing person" in a safe, controlled, and fun environment.

Unlike traditional tracking, mantrailing focuses on human scent rather than ground disturbance, making it accessible to every dog regardless of their physical ability. It's not just for working breeds – any dog can excel at mantrailing!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is mantrailing suitable for reactive dogs?

Yes! We can work with reactive dogs on an individual basis or with appropriate spacing. Mantrailing actually helps many reactive dogs build confidence and focus. Please let us know about your dog's needs when booking so we can ensure the best experience.

How fit does my dog need to be?

Mantrailing is very adaptable. We start with short, simple trails suitable for all fitness levels. If your dog can walk for 15-20 minutes, they can mantrail. We adjust the difficulty based on each dog's abilities.

What should I bring?

Bring your dog on a comfortable harness (not a collar for tracking work), a long lead (we can provide if needed), high-value treats, water for your dog, and weather-appropriate clothing for yourself. We'll provide all other equipment.

Can puppies participate?

Absolutely! Mantrailing is fantastic for puppies. It's gentle on growing joints while providing excellent mental stimulation and confidence-building. Puppies as young as 12 weeks can start learning basic scent work.

How long does the workshop last?

Plan for approximately 2 hours. This includes an introduction to mantrailing, practical exercises, and Q&A time. Each dog typically completes 2-3 trails during the session.

What if my dog has never done anything like this before?

That's completely normal! Most dogs attending our workshops are complete beginners. We start with the absolute basics and guide you every step of the way. You'll be amazed at how quickly dogs pick up their natural scenting abilities.

Do I need to be fit to participate?

Mantrailing is as gentle or active as you need it to be. While you'll be walking with your dog, we keep trails short and manageable. If you have mobility concerns, please let us know and we'll adapt accordingly.
