5 Famous Dogs You Will Love!

Since the dawn of time, dogs have probably been man’s (and woman’s) best friend. From Frank Sinatra and his dog Ringo, to Paul McCartney and his sheepdog Martha, and Elvis and his hound dog, dogs have learnt to share the spotlight with their famous owners. However, thanks to the birth of the digital age, these five canines have established significant followings of their own...  

1.       Bo Obama

Known as the First Dog, Bo Obama is a five year old Portuguese Water dog. President Barack Obama, and family, chose Bo because of his hypoallergenic qualities, as daughter Malia is allergic to (non-hypoallergenic) dogs. Bo sports a permanent tuxedo, so he is always ready for those important White House functions! 2.       Hachiko

Hachiko the Japanese Akita, known as chūken Hachikō (faithful dog Hachiko), is famous for being extremely loyal.  Hachikō greeted his owner at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return. The professor had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died, never returning to the train station where his faithful Hachikō was waiting. Each day for the next nine years Hachikō awaited Uenos return, appearing precisely when the train was due at the station. In April 1934, Hachiko’s loyalty was honoured by a bronze statue at the station. The story of Hachiko has been made into several films, including Hachi: A Dog’s Tale featuring actor Richard Gere.

3.       Boo the World’s Cutest Dog

Boo the Pomeranian has officially been titled the World’s Cutest Dog. Boo is an internet sensation, with his own range of memorabilia. Boo was appointed a ‘spokesdog’ for Virgin America airlines, and has over 13 million ‘likes’ on Facebook.

4.       Queen Elizabeth’s Corgis

Queen Elizabeth II, in 2007, had five corgis: Monty, Emma, Linnet, Willow and Holly; and four dorgis (dachshund-corgi crossbreeds): Cider, Berry, Vulcan and Candy.  The Queen has owened over 30 corgis, so it’s safe to say – she’s definitely a fan of these adorable, short legged cuties!

5.       George Gosling

Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling is often photographed by the paparazzi with his loyal companion George. George, who often sports a socks and a Mohawk, appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
