What is Dog Agility?

Dog agility is an exciting sport where dogs navigate obstacle courses – jumping over hurdles, weaving through poles, racing through tunnels, and balancing on see-saws. It's like a fun playground adventure that combines speed, skill, and teamwork between handler and dog.

Originally developed in the late 1970s, agility has become one of the most popular dog sports worldwide. It's fantastic exercise, brilliant mental stimulation, and an absolute joy for both dogs and their owners. Best of all? Any dog can do it – from Border Collies to Beagles, Cockapoos to Chihuahuas!

Frequently Asked Questions

My dog has never done agility before – is this workshop suitable?

Absolutely! This taster workshop is specifically designed for complete beginners. We start from the very beginning and assume no prior knowledge or experience from you or your dog.

Is my puppy too young for agility?

Puppies can start foundation agility training from 5 months old. We keep everything low-impact with NO jumping for dogs under 12 months to protect growing joints. Instead, we focus on body awareness, confidence, basic commands, and equipment introduction using tunnels and low contact equipment.

My dog is quite nervous – will they cope?

Yes! We work at each dog's individual pace. Agility is actually brilliant for building confidence in nervous dogs. We use positive reinforcement, keep everything fun and pressure-free, and never force a dog to do something they're uncomfortable with.

Can my older dog do agility?

If your older dog is healthy and mobile, they can absolutely enjoy agility! We adjust jump heights and pace to suit each dog. Always check with your vet first if you have any concerns about your dog's fitness level.

What if my dog is reactive to other dogs?

We maintain good spacing between dogs during training. However, if your dog is highly reactive or struggles to focus around other dogs, please contact us before booking to discuss whether this workshop is suitable or if private sessions would be better.

Do I need to be fit to do agility?

You'll be moving around the course with your dog, but we work at your pace. If you have mobility concerns, please let us know – we can adapt handling techniques to suit your needs.

What happens if I book the taster but decide agility isn't for us?

That's completely fine! The taster workshop is designed to let you try agility with no commitment. If it's not your thing, there's no obligation to continue. But we think you'll love it!

Can I bring more than one dog?

For your first taster session, we recommend bringing just one dog so you can focus on learning. If you'd like to bring multiple dogs, please contact us to discuss options.

Is there parking at the venue?

Yes, parking is available at both our venues.

What's the next step after the taster workshop?

If you enjoy the taster session, you'll be invited to join our regular weekly beginner agility classes where you can continue developing your skills in a structured course format.
